Political career
In 1984, Amitabh took a break from acting and entered politics in support of Rajiv Gandhi. Won the Allahabad seat in the 8th Lok Sabha with one of the highest victory margins ever in Indian elections.
In 1987, the Indian Express revealed his brother Ajitabh Bachchan owned an apartment in Switzerland, giving rise to speculations about his involvement in the "Bofors scandal". Resigned from his seat in July. Ajitabh Bachchan sued Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter for linking him to Bofors payments in 1990 and won damages in the United Kingdom.
Supported by his friend Amar Singh during the financial crisis caused by the failure of his company, ABCL. Started supporting the Samajwadi Party, to which Amar Singh belonged. Appeared in advertisements and political campaigns for the party.
Claimed to have been banned by film press during the emergency years for his family's friendship with Indira Gandhi.
Accused of using the slogan "blood for blood" in the context of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Denies the allegation. Summoned by a court in Los Angeles in October 2014 for allegedly instigating violence against the Sikh community. Offered to fight the case in court and asked the accusers to present proof.
Amitabh was also one of the trustees of Rajiv Gandhi Foundation.

However, it wasn’t until the filming of Ganga Ki Saugandh in 1978 that Amitabh reportedly lost his temper with a co-actor who was misbehaving with Rekha. This incident brought their affair to the limelight and garnered media attention. Although both Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha denied their affair in the media, director Yash Chopra revealed in an interview years later that they were indeed in a relationship during the making of their film Silsila. Chopra expressed his fear and anxiety during the filming, as the real-life love triangle between Amitabh, Jaya, and Rekha was unfolding on screen. There were even rumors of a secret marriage between Amitabh and Rekha, which many newspapers and magazines published. In response to Amitabh’s denial, Rekha expressed her understanding of his need to protect his image, family, and children. In an interview with a news portal, Kader Khan revealed the story behind the end of his real friendship with Amitabh. 3. In 2011, former Femina Miss India World Sayani Bhagat shocked the film industry by accusing Amitabh Bachchan, Shiney Ahuja, and Sajid Khan of sexual harassment. Amitabh Bachchan filed a police complaint against Sayani’s accusations, and it was later revealed that Sayani had been a victim of cybercrime.
